Forgotten Fairytales by sanguisGelidus Forgotten Fairytales by sanguisGelidus
A melody, which livens up the forest... and awakes a long forgotten fairytale...

There is some kind of a story behind this picture. But I want you to imagine yourself what this story could look like :) so tell me in the comments ;) :D

This image took so much time and effort to draw! I think it's my hugest picture so far! I hope you like it!!

Drawn in PS CS4 with Hanvon "Artmaster" - graphic tablet
about 20+ hours

RIFT theme: This is the colossus of life :)

:icon1dakota-smith1: has written a very beautiful and awesome shortstory for this picture... thanks so much!!:

That...tune....has not been heard on this side of the world in....a very long time. It has been so long...I had almost forgotten just how wonderful it is. I must see. I must see where it is coming from. Who brings it here?

The earth is stiff around the Guardian but despite of this he lifts himself above the surface. Nearby there is a young woman playing a small instrument on the stump of what was once a mighty tree. The Guardian speaks in her mind "you who are you?"
Without faltering the woman answers "my name is Arethusa. My ancestor was once the nymph who resided in this tree."
"Why do you come here Arethusa? Why do you play that song?"
"This song has been passed down my family for hundreds of years. As a child I heard the stories of you, great Guardian, and how you have kept this forest pure."
The Guardian was silent
"I have come here to tell you that there is very little of the outside world left and what is left is burning....did you know this is the last forest?"
"Yes. I have felt my kin dying this past millennium."
"Why have you done nothing to stop it?" Arethusa said. A tear trickled down her cheek and onto her flute.
"I cannot leave this forest. I am the very heart and soul of this place. I am bound to this place forever."
"The song is almost finished."
"Then we must soon part ways and you will go back to the outside world."
"There is nothing for me there."
"You must go. If what you say is true then it is time for a new age. I give you a piece of my power..."
Arethusa felt roots entwining themselves around her feet and crawl up her legs. She felt a glow fill her up. For that one moment she was bound to the forest itself and she could see it. In her mind's eye she saw every tree, flower, and blade of grass. For that one moment she could hear the forest singing along with her little tune.
"You must return to the world and may where ever you step be the home to my children. The age of the forest will rise from the ashes. All will be well.'
As the song ended the roots fell away and the guardian returned to his slumber, preparing to wake at the dawn of a new and brighter earth.

CATEGORY: Contests / 2011 / RIFT Create a Colossus Contest:

The suggester says of this deviation originally created for the RIFT contest, "The image is full of atmosphere and magic, mostly because of the lighting and wonderful colouring. The blue eyes of the dragon as a contrast to the greens and yellows of the background add a focus to the picture and make the dragon look like he would be hypnotized by the dryad's melody. Overall, the image is massively detailed where needed, well composed and highly enchanting. It seems to tell the viewer a story, which not every picture can achieve." ok This is my first Critique so sorry if this really sucks.

When I see this Master piece it makes me a little sad that I forget fairy tales and when I see fairy tales made into a movie I cry. This picture is one of those pictures where I just stare at it and think for quite awhile. I always have an emotion with every picture I stare at. The dragon is so detailed and the trees, the moss and the grass growing over the dragon makes it look very old. The lady playing the flute is being covered in wood that means that she is becoming a tree starting to look old.

Every picture I stare at about fairy tales I cry a little wondering, "If I don't believe in fairy tales then what do I believe in?"

I think this art is magical and beautiful 5 stars for everything because this art work is amazing.

This.... makes my heart beat faster then a normal human's, and it brought tears to my eyes. I once imagined that the dragons had hidden in the woods, blending perfectly with the surroundings and, therefore, not rousing the suspicion of there continued existence, and this picture, so realistic and beautiful, shows how my mind turns and twists, and how it might somehow be true.

And how this ancient dragon was roused by the sweet music of a hybrid girl, nature bound, horned with those of a graceful, majestic deer, and with the beauty of a fair maiden, young and innocent, touches my heart. It seems that the forest has also laid claim on her, wrapping its roots around her legs to hold her firmly in it's grasp so that the forest and the dragon my listen to her sweet music forever more.

The dim light suggests the trees are heavy with leaves. How it just barely shines through the gaps, inconsistently. The rabbits and birds show no fear of the two creatures, for they know they will not come to harm in their presence. Oh how I wish I was with her, sitting by her side, playing the penny whistle, and gazing into the dragon's daring, startlingly bright teal eyes.

Oh what a wonder that would be.

this is the kind of drawing that you can look at for ages and always find something more that you didnt notice before:3 like the three little birds, how the sun rays pushes through to warm up the soft grass or how the rabbits has stopped for a minute to listen to the soft tones in harmony floating out from the treenymphs flute. its magical!:D<3

It's breath taking. I would write a story to this, but I don't have the knack for writing short stories. The stories I write are meant to be long, and continue on. If I ever make one, I'll be sure to post it.
