This idea came to me, when I was browsing through stock images on DA and found this amazing phot of a girl: [link] I used it as reference to draw the girl The credit goes to
The first thing that struck me about this image was the incredible movement of light and color from which the phoenix emerges. The red is very striking, and, in my opinion, an excellent color choice. The tail of the phoenix is indistinguishable from the fiery trail, which is very effective and serves to not break up the image, which could easily happen with the two subjects drawing focus. I love the fact that the little girl is in a lighter environment; it seems as if she has been saved or at least left warmer and more secure than the darkness into which the phoenix is flying. My one suggestion on this point is that the color transition from purple to an almost black color in the rightmost corners is very abrupt in comparison to the other color transitions. I think it might be more effective to soften this fade a bit. I would have to say that my favorite part of this piece is the detail in the fire surrounding and following the phoenix. The small yellow flecks really sharpen the details and focus the eye.
Overall, this piece is absolutely gorgeous. While the concept of the phoenix rising from the ashes isn't exactly uncommon, this is a very fresh take on it that elevates this piece above the rest. Lovely colors, striking details, elegant, powerful movement, and a creative vision. Excellent work!
After looking at your gallery, I can say with full certainty that you are a genius with light. This picture has exquisite detail, but I think you could make the ashes have more of an ashy texture like the embers you created. I love the girl and her pose, and that stock was a great picture to spark the imagination! The only thing that looks slightly wrong to me is that her humerus bone is a bit short. (I have super long arms so that might just be me!) I think the shadows from the tail of the pheonix are perfect, but the two hangy-down things from its face (for lack of a better term) are more curved than what would be on a pheonix travelling at a high speed, even though they look cool like that. I love your color choices! This picture makes me happy!
